How can AI further improve the interaction between vehicles and their users – thereby enhancing safety and comfort in automated driving?

Exploring this and developing corresponding AI applications – that was the focus of the KARLI project. On Wednesday, we celebrated the successful conclusion of the project, presented key findings, and showcased three AI applications developed during the project in detail:

  • Person- and context-sensitive AI interaction
An adaptive interface that dynamically adjusts to user behavior and situational requirements.
  • AI-assisted prevention of motion sickness
An intelligent system for the early detection and minimization of discomfort during autonomous journeys.
  • A system for ensuring driving behavior and its alignment with specific levels
A solution for continuously verifying whether driving behavior aligns with the current level of automation.

Our role in the project focused on an application designed to prevent motion sickness. We took responsibility for the conceptualization, coordination, and execution of extensive user studies. The objective was to evaluate the effectiveness of the AI methods developed under realistic conditions and to gain well-founded insights for further optimization. The results provide valuable input for the design of future human-machine interactions in the field of automated mobility.
